I'm watching Meet The Press and they are having a hour long discussion on, you guessed it, Don Imus. I haven't watched all of it but at least Russert had the stones to say that if Imus gets back on Radio he will listen. Of course Russert prefaced that with saying something like "If he dedicates his life to racial equality". What Russert fails to realize is that the same people who started this "scandal" will never allow racial equality. If there is no racism then Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are out of business. That's why they go around creating racial strife where there is none. Indeed that is what their legacy will be, race hustlers.
Now I must admit, I was a big fan of Imus. His show was very informative in ways that a lot of people have forgotten in the last week. He studied the news like a hawk and was one of, if not the most, informed talk show host on T.V. Despite what some people like Michelle Malkin (who I tend to like) says, he was not a liberal. Yes most of his guests were liberals, but then again most of his guests were from the MSM so that is to be expected. Yes he supported Kerry, but with Bush as the other choice I won't hold that against him. In reality his show was no more liberal than that neocon lovefest Special Report with Brit Hume. And Imus even had on Pat Buchanan regularly, and it's always great to hear Pat on the current issues.
But having said all that, being a fan of Imus isn't why I don't think what he said is a big deal. I listened to the show that got him into trouble and I didn't even notice he said anything wrong. Why? Because nappy-headed hos is a phrase I've heard before and it never caused any trouble. I've heard my black friends use the phrase. I've heard it in Rap music. Just like the sports columnist Jayson Whitlock said, most of those girls from the basketball team are probably somewhere right now dancing to a rap song that is saying the same thing Imus said, if not much worse. This was nothing more then Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson creating more controversy. And like Eric Bishoff says, Controversy creates Cash.
